Important: sub-category / main-category issue...

I have a lot of (main) categories in my news portal, and every thing is excellent, one of those category "Lets say sport" does have three sub category "Lets say football, basketball, swimming" under it. The problem is that the main category "sport" do not have any article to show, so the reader need to go to each sub-category to read the sport news. The question, How I can reflect all sub-category articles to the main category "sport" page or another option how can I can include all sub-category title as a list in the main category page.

I searched the forum a lot but I could not find the right answer.
