I've got an idea - the solution would solve two problems for us... :)

We can submit SE friendly urls when we write an article, which I think is fantastic. However, our category names form part of that url. Therefore, I've had to avoid using more than one word for category titles, as they throw up some horrible urls if not.

For example, call a category Food & Drink and the url isn't pretty.

Therefore, how about having a facility for short-naming Categories? i.e. it would display on the site as Food & Drink, but the url would be of our choosing i.e. /dining/

This would also solve another problem....

I have sites with lost of established articles on and, whilst I wouldn't mind converting the sites to Word Press, I don't want to ruin their SE listings. Trouble is, the sub directories they are in wouldn't make good category titles on the home page.

If we could short-name our categories as above, I could incorporate all the old pages into the new site without changing their urls.

Just a thought - hope it's of some use.

Best wishes,

Elton

Forget the above - that facility is already there and this dimwit never knew it :D

For newbies like me, create your category like normal i.e. Food & Drink and then edit the category. Where it says 'Redirect link:' is where you put your shorthened version.

i.e. type 'food' in there and your urls will be whateveryourdomain.com/food/

Excellent - makes life a lot easier
