View Full Version : Performance statistics / optimisation
I' ve been warned by two different parties: my Web Admin and the development team that the CMS generates a scary amount of queries to MySQL that affects performace of a site. For instance we are just deployed a new copy (based on v 3.5) and started tuning templates. At this moment (31/05/2007 morning) only the homepage has been done, everything else is a default - http://www.blackdigital.net/ued/ .
A simple Login page http://www.blackdigital.net/ued/login.php generates 200 queries to MySQL! Generally, pages on other sites we did generate from 150 to 200 queries.
We can and will optimise the default version prior to deploying new sites, but with every new version of Vivvo (e.g. 3.6 etc) we will have to do it again.
Would you look into this for your future releases?
P.S. Perhaps this should have been published in the "Product Suggestions" chapter, but this is rather troubling now, than being a 'wish'.
P.P.S. This will not be noticable for sites with small amount of traffic, but for sites that attract medium-large amount of visitors it will put a huge pressure on server and noticably slow down the delivery.
P.P.P.S. Don't take me wrong. Vivvo is a nice and user-friendly application that works, otherwise we would not use it, but there are things tha have to be ironed-out.

WMD -
For the love of Vivvo, its users and hard working developing team, what if optimized the coding in your site and then shared it us or atleast the development team at Vivvo. Then that way it would help them to continually get the product much better the further we go.
Just a thought!

man i LOVE your thought bro. I am having some issues with my vivvo v3.5 i am on 650 articles, and growing by 50 articles daily, and there is a very noticable degrade in effeciency. I have been thinking of posting an optimization project on scriptlance or freelancer to get this sorted out.
But i am hoping vivvo will come with some promised upgrades soon to deal with this. But again its just some patience - i have a lot, but i dont have time, i really dont have time to wait to launch this project. So as per Aaron's thought, it would be really nice to atleast share this with the developers of Vivvo - so we could benefit, i would be willing to contribut a token sum ($$) towards this effort..

I had faced some problems before as you know vivvo admins beforre... My site had been suspenden before because of high loading to server...
then I cleaned the database and created a new one because we thought it was an upgrade problem. first it was good. there were no problems but after 300 articles my server again said there was a high load and suspended it...
I m now really bad. I dont know whats the problem. server or vivvo 3.5 ? If someone say me that I have over 3000 article and it works perfectly, I could take a host from his server but if everybody has this problem, please vivvo solve this issue...
my site is closed now and waiting for your good news...

WOw your site is closed....
Man this has me worried now, i mean if at 300 articles you had some issues, i can imagine when i hit the 5000 by september. This is not acceptable, I am going to look on scriptlance for help. ITs very unlikely anyone will help me there, plus i have invested ($999 + $150 + More customisation on the way) to much into this script already.. Its a good script for news, but needs some work.. If you guys ever get a solution please share, or if you guys interested we could come together and collectively chip in to find a solution by paying someone to resolve thsi issue that is plauging all of us.. I'd prefer this action as it is going to seriously improve performance for us and other minor stuff.

No need to look anywhere else, there are some problems with DB optimization in 3.5 and they are all sorted out in this patch. You'll see, once you apply it you will have no problems in DB load.
The patch is done, we are testing it for last couple of days and is going to be released very, very soon (most probably even today).

Apocan, who are you using as a host? Are you also running a vBulletin at your site? (once you get over 30 concurrent sessions on a vBulletin, most shared hosting solutions start to get itchy, and sometimes turn off sites.)
While an issue with V's db load has been identified (and hopefull fixed with this patch), you might have a server optimization issue, too.
I have a very active vBulletin-based site, and was constantly having server issues. I must have moved 8 times until I got with a host who knew how to handle a site with issues related to database load. (I'm with Liquid Web now - love them)
