How to seperate authors on the site from users

has anyone figured how to separate authors/writers/contributors to the site from everyday users who need to register before they can comment on articles.

secondly how does on increase the no of related articles.

How did you create the tag cloud, and the 'recent comments' box?

no myzongo is on spip. the old ghana music.com is done with xoops. but i using vivvo for the new Ghana Music.com..check here.. http://www.ghanamusic.net :) :)
