Joomla is all-round purpose free CMS, while Vivvo CMS is narrowed to News and Media Publishing CMS. I really can't tell you why should you use one over another, free vs. proprietary is your own choice.

Updating vivvo es almost impossible, there are not good updaters. (from 4.0.3 to the last one it will be hard to do it)
add-ons are really nice but you have to wait a lot of time for them.
joomla is open source and i feel it's more hackable... but it has tons of add-ons, not like vivvo.
i believe is a bit expensive for what it offers.
it's up to you to decide.

I definitely would not agree with this. Updating from 4.0.x to. 4.1 takes one single step - running upgrade script. If you missed 5 or 6 upgrades, you will normally need to run upgrade script for each respective one, but this will take 5 seconds more for each. Instead of upgrading from 4.0.2 to 4.1.5 in 40 seconds, you will do that in a minute and a half. What a hassle :)
As for comparison on available add-ons, it is normal for open source CMS to have variety of 3rd party contributors contrary to commercial CMS. Nothing strange to it. However, it has much bigger signal-to-noise ratio. If you strip down the number of useless add-ons that Joomla contributors make (how many of those you actually use??), you'll see that Vivvo has just about enough - because Vivvo developers focus on what is really needed. Just count the number of plugins and widgets they released in last 3 months, and you'll see what I mean.
