Is there an easier way to create a template in 3.5, screwing around digging for css files, and then guessing on placement doesn't seem to be the most effecient. Maybe an insight into how you guys designed yours would be nice.

Yes, I agree.
The last version was soooo much easier to edit and be able to look thru because you would just copy and paste it into your WSIWYG editor and go to town. Then you would copy and paste it back int VIVVO.
Now it's a complete pain in the ass to so what things go in what columns and very tough to find anything in the new coding because it is all just one big pile of crap.
Please Vivvo clean up the coding and layout of the templates and backend.

Making an important decision to move to full CSS layout in 3.5 was perhaps one of the most carefully planned assessments in 3.5 we had to make. Tableless layout is de-facto the standard in 2007 and we wanted to be the first CMS vendor in News publishing industry to enforce this.
On the other hand, we are fully aware of downpit that this will bring in webmaster/marketer community. People out there are less familiar with CSS then plain old table-HTML and will fell less in control of their website layout. I know that CSS is fairly more difficult to grasp, but advantages to having it and ease it brings once you know what you’re doing beyond doubt overwhelm the initial “pain”.

Absolutely :) We're currently in the process of creating Developer documentation that addresses CSS layout and templates, together with the How-To we already launched. This will help immensely reduce time and effort to deploy custom looking templates and modifications to your sites.

I understand CSS... in fact I think its great that you are moving in this area. The problem with CSS and .tpl is that you can not edit offline efficiently with a editor. Or at least I've never figured out how.
I am all for CSS... but having to guess where everything is leads to a lot of trial and error and wasted time.

Any idea on how long before this will be available?

Any chance of getting it updated for developers and plug ins?

Finding people to work on vivvo templates hasn't been hard. Finding those who can customize the programming is proving to be very difficult.
