I've been using Vivvo for quite some time now but still find myself a stranger on these forums, would love to know how most of you use your vivvo and for what purpose. Hey just general banter btw...

Do you solely use it to publish news/articles or have you gone beyond and expanded it for other purposes too?

I don't know about others, but I customize the crap out of it lol ... I've taken the basic "articles" and turned them more into "content" by adding more field types to use for various content types... I also use the reveiw plugin and modify the crap out of it to add a ton of different types of content modules to the article (Which I call content now).. for example.... say you have a Realestate site ... that type of site really doesn't use "articles" but has "Properties" ... Categories can be set up for Different Property Types ie, Commercial, Residential etc... and then sub cats could be by city or location etc etc etc.... now, back to the "article"... The "article" now is customize to have fields pertaining to a "property" like Price, Number of Bedrooms, baths, etc (I think you get the idea) ... You can also accomplish this with out editing the "article" but using the Review Plugin. You make a Property "review" (even tho its not a "review") and it will contain all the property type fields. Then you include that template within the area of the Body of the "article" (or how ever you want to customize your "article" layout for that "content" type. (I am sure I've lost most people by now lol)....

Anyway, I guess what I am saying is that I am one of those that thinks "Outside the Box". Vivvo is setup pretty damn good to really customize, but ya gotta look past the "its an article system"

Bobster, I can see what you mean, and it sounds like a very logical way to use vivvo. Probably very effective for seo too, with each property getting it's metas and keywords as you enter it.

Gosh, the more I think about it... ability to add video walk-thrus and that google maps thing, and polls and.. community news feeds.. each property can be almost a world of it's own. I'm not buying, but if I were, I'd like a site like that to browse. It would make the realtor seem like a high-end genius compared to much of what is online. (80 word descriptions and grainy cell phone pictures)

kudos

So with updates you must have some task...

I done that with the previous version of Vivvo but fell behind with the updates that it then became a nightmare to bring it up to date. I had to install a fresh installation and migrate the data over which eventually worked. I now have a dev version setup so this does not repeat itself.

My current dilemma is that I am running a separate video cms and I want to get rid of that and get vivvo to also take care of this.

not really. I track every file edit I make, so when upgrades come out and I have affected file, I can just "diff" the files and make the necessary code changes to the upgrade files. Doesn't take long at all. And yes, having a DEV environment also makes it easier/faster. Diff the files, do the upgrade on DEV and push the changes to Production.

Hosted vids or linked vids?

Linked vids, just need to customise Vivvo to show related videos by artist and category which is pretty straight forward. Just the video cms had little features like charts and branded videos which was a + but I suppose you can't have everything.

Just want to make things easier for myself, designing takes longer as i have to skin everything (other applications) so it looks like it is part of my site.

me too. i usually "skin" a cms to understand its framework. it's how i usually learn stuff rather than read or view a bunch of tutorials..reverse engineering :)
