Can't really answer your questions But I can tell you the new theming sctructure is very clever and has a couple of advantages. You can make it look like the old site, you can make it look like anyting you want really :)

This is probably not helping but had to say it lol, I really like the new Vivvo!

Old theme (v3.4) is table-based layout, new one is CSS based, so you cannot just use the old style out-of-the-box. However, there are couple of workarounds.

You can install 3.4, then upgrade to 3.5 and keep the old theme. Disadvantages of this approach is you will not have couple of (cool) features like AJAX article tools. Another way is to "recreate" the old structure if you're fairly familiar with HTML/CSS.

Finally, we shall probably release "old" theme in new CSS style, so you can wait for this to happen as well :)

releasing the old them to work with 3.5 will be great,must say the layout of 3.5 is disappointing compared to 3.4 ...
