Vivvo 3.5 contains new features and enhancements developed in the last three months. Among series of enhancements and mostly security improvements in the new version, two key improvements are vBulletin integration, and support for Mobile/PDA devices. And to spice things up a little bit, we now offer TWO templates with each purchased license. Not only that, realizing the importance of Search Engine placement for our customers, Sitemap/GoogleSitemap Plug-in is how being shipped for FREE with the bundle.

Make the most of it :)

As always - whole set of usability improvements has been made thanks to the valuable feedback from our community. Great deal of attention has been paid to Comments Management as we introduced a series of improvements like bad words filter; moderated comments; allowing comments only from registered members; and easier interface with mass edit options. One minor (but important) feature we'd like to emphasize is a ability to set custom path (URL) for site Administration - now you won't have to worry about someone trying to use brute force against your website administration.

Thank you all for your support, and keep up with good suggestions! :)

New features and important upgrades that Vivvo CMS 3.5 brings are:
vBulletin Integration
In keeping with the demands of the Vivvo user community, the new version adds a vBulletin® plug-in which enables smooth integration with the popular forum package.

Improved RSS/Atom and syndication

Before you all start yelling for upgrade :), let me just say that upgrade script for all v3.4 users shall be ready by Monday. So far, only "clean install" can be provided to existing users.

When are you sending download links? I have already requested earlier via email.

Me too, waiting for the download info and still not getting anything :(

When I enter my developers code and mail it doesn't allow me to click submit I have to enter a URL no matter what and then I just get redirected to the frontpage again.

Re: upgrade info

Yes, the website URL was mandatory in the form, now we changed that.

Please note, for now we can only ship 3.5 as "clean install", meaning you can install a fresh site with it and import database from 3.4.

You cannot upgrade your existing site leaving existing design and structure yet. That upgrade will be available by Monday. Just make sure you all understand that.

For all of you who requested upgrade link for clean install, please be patient due to high volume of demands we have. You'll all receive emails with download instructions as soon as possible.

When you send out the downloads to those with developer edition, can you send both the clean install and the upgrade. I would like to put the clean edition aside for the new projects, but use the upgrades for current sites.

Hi guys,

Have been looking at demo site and yes, v3.5 is looking great.

However at the admin back end, I was hoping to find a search field under manage articles and also it was mentioned that comments could be controlled but cant find anything for these.

The administration demo is still v3.4 - does this upgrade have this admin panel or is this an old link?

If so is it possible to see demo new backend please.

Thanks

Gus

To be honest the features added to V3.5 are great but I am really VERY disappointed with the changes to the layout as the layout of the previous version is MUCH better and professional looking that version 3.5.

Any change that the features can be added to the previous version?

I played for several hours with the new version but it seems almost impossible to let the layout looks even remotely as good as the previous version.

While the feature to switch between templates sounds promising it is a somewhat hollow feature and except for changing colors between red and blue at a few spots nothing else really changed. It would be far easier and more effective with plain CSS changes.

Without being negative it seems as if you have appointed somebody without experience but excellent stylesheet knowledge to do the job and that he tried to impress by building Ferrari parts into a VW.

Programming wise version 3.5 is a brilliant job but unfortunately it is not enough to convince me to use this version with such a greatly degraded frontend.

Frank, you know the Latin saying - De gustibus non disputandum est :) Don't forget one very important thing and major improvement - template structure. This is not OS, and you're not forced to use our default template as a layout for your website(s). Main point is that with 3.5 you'll be able to deploy custom looking websites much more easily than with 3.4 and to amend layout swiftly due to full CSS structure of layout and more powerful control over tags.

We just gave you the weapon. You choose the target :)

Where is the upgrade ?
Upgrade is ready and already released to customers requesting it. Most of you wanted only "clean install" upgrade so we didn't send both updates to each customer.

We just gave you the weapon. You choose the target

Yes Right but it don't help to give users a weapon that they don't have the technical ability to manage.

Anybody can say what he want but the new layout and templates are MUCH more difficult than the original 3.4 template. You just have to look at the huge difference between the professional look of version 3.4 and the new DEMO version 3.5, created by Vivvo EXPERTS to realise that.

If even Vivvo experts was unable to create a better looking and professional DEMO with then new V3.5, how can you expect clients to do that?

In all honesty I think you should ask all your clients whether they prefer v3.4 or v3.5 layout and templates. It will also have an impact on future purchased because potential clients will be driven away with the new look and very difficult template/skin layout of the new version.

I am a novice at programming and CSS, but I upgraded to 3.5 (clean install) last night, and within a few hours was able to create everything I liked about the 3.4 default theme.

I recommend you make a list of the parts of the 3.4 theme that you like, and post them. I think you will get tips on how to recreate them in 3.5. Part of the reason the DEMO looks different is they used different settings. You can easily control the number of articles, and more news listings, etc by the admin panel. The font sizes can easily be changed by going to templates in the admin panel and changing those. The header and footer design can be changed.

The other issue is that while the defaults may not be exactly your cup of tea and support might be a bit slow at times, one should be careful what one wishes for. Vivvo could add more staff but then how much would it cost? Some small newspapers are paying thousands of US dollars per year to get an online version running. But look at the VOX site run by Gus or at http://www.madata.gr/ or Elton's fishing sites to see what is possible for less than US$200.

I noticed that the scrolling news ticker was changed in the new Versio 3.5 (upgrade) so that it can now only fade out or appear.

I loved the scrolling news ticket in v3.4 so why was it removed? A security issue or what? Cannot see anything in the change log. (in fact, everything still mentioned SCROLLING news ticket except that it not scroll anymore.

Hi,

I have existing Site Map and Links plug-ins for 3.4. Will these still work with 3.5?

Links Manager has been discontinued (however you can use the existing one if you want), and SiteMap is updated - contact support to obtain the new version.

I am experiencing issues with the DHTML menu in the upgrade to v3.5 -- has anyone else come across this issue? The Horizontal menu doesn't appear to work for me.

I upgraded the style.css file as per the UPGRADE instructions, but all that appears on my site is a bulleted list...

This indicates you probably didn't upgrade CSS properly.

Hi,

I have purchased and downloaded the 3.5 upgrade.

We already run 3.4, are there any instructions on how to upload and upgrade to 3.5? The manual does not seem to cover 'upgrade'.

Frankc

There is a file in the upgrade package that explain very clearly what needs to be done to upgrade from 3.4 to 3.5.

Any idea what it is called?

It should be in your upgrade .zip file.

The folder is called Upgrade instructions.

It would appear that I have the full version and not the upgrade.

Looks like I will have to contact support.

Hi,

I have received the upgrade but decided to do a new full installation, after backing up the original db.

Anyone know if it's ok to import/use the old db?

Frankc
05-05-2007, 11:24 AM
There may be better advice but what I would try is to copy the upgrade.php file from the upgrade version to your website and run it. It will upgrade your old database to be compatible with the new installation.

Thanks Frankc,

I decided to do the hard way, create new db and copy entires from old db.

For all of you loving old 3.4 template so much, we just released it as a free template to the gallery (http://www.vivvo.net/gallery.php).

Have fun :)
