I am importing most of my news articles from RSS feeds.

My URLs look like http://site.com/category/501.html.

Is there a way to use the title of the article as a name for the html page?

Probably only manually. To edit each respective article and enter SE friendly name.

I hope you understand what you are suggesting! I import thousands of articles daily. Why don't you try editing them.

It must be possible to hack this taking the title of the imported item and use that as the URL?

Preciesely. I want my URLs to look like this: http://site.com/category/full_article_name.html.

It would be much more SEO friendly and I would achieve much higher Google Rankings

I also want my url to be in all lower caps

http://site.com/category/full_article_name.html.

instead of

http://site.com/Category/Full_article_name.html.

There's really no need for sarcasm. (Especially when what you're trying to do is get high page ranks from the content of others...)
