Dear Boccio:

If I search in google I get various entries I have written in this vivvo forum.

IMHO it would be great if these posts where not available to the general public as I believe that some of the topics discussed are for our community members only.

Again for those who have paid for brand removal it may defeat this purpose.

Some of us may also be discussing topics which are sensitive to our competition.

Am I too paranoid? :confused:

Personally I think it makes sense, I know its one of the things I do to find out what my competition uses :P Its also why i don't link to my own site or use a recognisable name. Its not paranoia, its a simple fact the competition will use it against your if they can.

"They only use vivvo we however use a far more blah blah blah"

Very interesting topic for discussion.

At this point, I believe it is is easier not to display your website URL if you paid for brand removal, then to ban whole forum from being indexed by Search Engine spiders. Looking at "pros" and "cons" I believe it is more valuable to have forum indexed then not to.

On the other hand all the issues you have with regards to the actual URL of your site can be handled via HelpDesk.

One thing that crosses my mind is opening a VIP section on the forum for customers with own brand that do not wish to be recognized, and Developer customers. This VIP section will be closed for "regular" members and Search Engine spiders.

Just a thought... This is perhaps the easiest thing to do to keep your sites private, and leave regular forum areas open to public and spiders.

For this CMS and development of its community I think its very important it has a good "profile" on google. It will help it grow and with more users / money :P comes better software. Well .. ok I guess microsoft kinda proves that wrong but.. well you know what i mean hehe

Very true, I personally think its pretty much down to self censoring and perhaps send URL's through the private message system. vB has some nice features in this regard. On the other hand I must admit it is fun to see what people did with their release of Vivvo, it will help inspire either new users to join or help existing users to upgrade their site.

I think my computer mouse should eat the spiders?!?!?

On the other hand, perhaps its a good idea to keep the troubleshooting forum out of google, not just for the customers :P

Yeah you are too paranoid. I mean - who bans Google ? People die to get indexed and to rank higher and you simply want to ban it?

Dear Friends:

Yes you all make valid points. :)

IMHO the Vivvo CMS Support Forums should have two areas;

1. Pre sales questions, etc - available to anyone, and indexed by search engines. - posts here should ideally be handled by vivvo staff.

2. The users support area - available to registered users, not indexed.

Although I agree with Chatfan & Dellius that its important for vivvo to have good listings at google to increase the popularity of the product, in my opinion it is the main and demo vivvo sites that should have these ratings and not our "internal" discussions which primarily are based for existing vivvo users.

I don't mean that no one should read our discussions but I think it should only be available to registered forum users. I suppose that anyone who is seriously thinking of using vivvo usually becomes a member anyway.

My concerns are not based on having cleint urls related to the support area, in any case anyone "googling" a vivvo client url should get pages of client entries from the actual site before getting the vivvo forums. :)

My main concerns are;

a) there may be stuff which we want to share with other vivvo users and not our competition - eg. I wrote a letter describing some problems we were having in order to get response/help from other vivvo users - this was not intended for the general public but however could be found via google.

b) being able to share an idea to benefit vivvo clients but not letting our competition onto it.

However I am not trying to change the way things run here, I was just making a suggestion.

But perhaps an area where our community could share comments privately would be a great asset. ;)

Regards

Gus

Gus,

Thanks again for your feedback, we value your contributions highly.

We are currently not planning to make Vivvo forum private, but you will be glad to know that we are working on a separate section for our Vivvo Preferred Partners (VPP). This new area is meant to serve our power users, developers and partners who will have closer access to our development team and be able to share know-how among themselves.

We look forward to introducing this new program to the members of Vivvo community in the near future.
