Hi All,
I'm following the tutorial here (http://www.vivvo.net/resources/how-to/135.html) for the multi-language how to and I am wondering if it's possible to have some of the categories localized to language but not all.

For example:
There are some sections that will have both English and Spanish content and I don't need separate sections for them. I'd like to have them appear in both languages as top categories so I don't have to duplicate them in each language. See a modification of the tree they list in the How To:

|--English
|-----Events
|-----News
|-----Reviews
|-------DVD
|-------CD
|-----Movies
|-- Espaņol
|-----Eventos
|-----Noticias
|-----Criticas
|-------DVD
|-------CD
|-----Cine
|-- Radio
|-- Photos
|-- Videos

The last three should appear in both languages whether it's in English or Spanish. Ideally the top navigation would have the localized categories AND the additional always present ones.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks!

I am not really sure I understood you correctly but if you want 2 languages in those categories why not make a 3rd lang with both english and spanish.:) and assign it to them?

I guess I'm saying if I follow the tutorial the parent categories for "English" and "Spanish" are hidden from the interface because only the child categories of those are displayed in the tool bar but does this mean that all top level categories are hidden?
Keeping in mind my outline from above I'd like the top navigation to look like this:
(There would be a flag or language switch at the top of the screen or I will try to autoset this based on computer language setting.)

In english the top nav:
Home | Events | News | Reviews | Radio | Photos | Videos
(Reviews then has the mouse over reveal for the subcategories)

In the spanish top nav:
Inicio | Eventos | Noticias | Criticas | Radio | Photos | Videos

Now, in fact Home, Events, etc... and Inicio, Eventos, etc... are SUB CATEGORIES of English and Spanish respectively but Radio, Photos, and Videos are top level categories on the same level as English and Spanish.

Is it possible to display all these navigation items (both the language specific subcategories and the top level generic / site wide categories) in the top navigation bar?

The only other alternative it seems is to duplicate them within the language categories but this was what I was trying to avoid if possible.

Thanks!

The easiest way to make this is to make all of these categories

In English :
Home | Events | News | Reviews | Radio | Photos | Videos

and in Spanish

Inicio | Eventos | Noticias | Criticas | Radio | Photos | Videos

and redirect the Radio Photos and Videos from the Spanish category to the ones in English category. :)

If you put em in the lvl with the languages they would be treated as one of em.

Have been tryng to get vivvo to work in multi-lingual (Chinese and English) and sub-categories to work for weeks and even with support from VIVVO.... they cant fix the bugs.

Has anyone manage to get VIVVO to work as claimed (with multi-lingual and sub-categories (i.e two level below root category)????

It seems that VIVVO cant solve the problem as well....

So I think VIVVO should qualify its claim that it is multi-lingual!

@achng,

Let's be realistic and face the truth! Managing and mixing multi-lingual text with different chars/symbols and page direction (ie English/Chinese, English/Arabic, etc) under one CMS installation (single database) and from a single Admin console is simply a nightmare whether it's Vivvo, Wordpress, Joomla or other CMS system on the planet :o

You may have two separate Vivvo instances on your domain (ie www.site.com/en & www.site.com/ch) with two databases, while you still interact with the end user through a single interface.

You were given support and guidance from our engineers, but you need to be a bit more realistic in expectations. Your issues of binding English and Chinese under same site structure do not fall within the scope of normal support (not even remotely), so you either need to conduct this on your own using suggestions and aid we provided you with, or submit a request for custom work.

I agree with you.

I set the multi language system and at first it works, but when on article view, the menu shows the root instead of only the categories of that language.
I think I am missing something. Could some one tell me where to look?
My site is: http://ondepedalar.com/br for portuguese e .../en for english.
One more detail:
when I go to article, the page url comes with a root in front, like this: http://www.ondepedalar.com/http://www.ondepedalar.com/br/escola_bicicleta/como-comprar-bicicleta-bike.html

I think the problem is this extra url. How can I avoid this part? Someone could give a help?

Thanks
Marcelo
