I was much impressed by this article: http://www.joostdevalk.nl/seo-newspapers

So I wonder how to reorganize the default theme with the following points in mind:

1. Title: <title> - <category> - <newspaper name>
2. Tagging: A dedicated page containing all the tags.
3. 'nofollow' all links in the case of all the pages (those are mostly static)
4. Article title is always H1; H2's and h3's for subheadings (custom fields)
5. New/fresh content first; left navigation bar containing everything move to the right: so we will have one 1st column with content; 2nd column with the current right column; and the last column will be the present left column.
6. alt="image" / .... all images must have the image caption as ALT="image caption" ..

AND here's a sample image layout: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/5434/newtemplategn0.th.jpg (http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newtemplategn0.jpg)

can someone do a recode and share the default template?

Thanks!

Great resource, indeed.

Vivvo basically uses most of techniques described here, and IMO a lot more that is not mentioned in this article.

If you have any other tips how to improve SEO for Vivvo site - please share them with us :)

xgguy, this sounds like a great idea and may be something we can offer right up front when we open customvivvo.org next week. Is this something other Vivvo users might be interested in?

Boccio is correct that Vivvo inherently has many of these features, but they are not always optimized for the best performance. The coding supports these features, but it takes a little work on the templates to get the most from it.

A lot of SEO is common sense rather than tricks to fool the search engines. The indexing algorithms are looking for certain aspects of design which give them clues to the importance of the information contained in the site which was spidered. By following some simple rules, you can make it easier for your site to be indexed, and this will give you an advantage over other sites which have not taken these steps.

Just as a sidenote, if you're planning on doing some design work, there's a great book which both explains and demonstrates basic aspects of navigation which are effective for both human users and search engine optimization. "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug (http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Make-Me-Think-Usability/dp/0321344758/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211809188&sr=8-1) is an exceptional resource. This will allow you to create a great foundation which centers around usability, but lends itself to great SEO as well.
