Headlines / Latest Additions Text

On the index page of my install there are two big titles saying 'Headlines' and 'Latest Additions'.

I have found out where to edit these but how do I remove them completely? In the admin when I just delete the text it defaults back to the above stated.

I can't find how to get rid of them in any template, etc.

Short way to do this

on admin/preferences replace text in Title of headlines with one space character.

That works :D
