hey
one of my categories has a sub category with 30 items. is there a way to split them into two columns?

No, this is not possible.
You can perhaps use Accordion sections menu widget.
That way your subcategories won't be visible all the time, only when you expand category.

Sorry, I think I worded the question wrong.
I'm using the horizontal navigation menu that is under the header. Take a look at the screenshot. Basically where you see Atlantic, central, southeast, northwest etc...imagine 30 of those...it becomes too long and the last few at the bottom get cut off. What I'm trying to do is split that into two columns so that none is cutoff

No, I'm afraid that's not possible due to Vivvo category structure.
