Author field always grayed

Why is the author field greyed out for Administrators it would be far better if I could change this.

Author field cannot be modified. It is populated by login details of author that is logged on to the system. Reason for this is merely for security, so person couldn't post articles under somebody elses name.

Ok, this is how it works when logged in as writer/editor, but is there a way I can have ability to change author field when logged in as admin? Any thoughts on this?

Yes, this is corrected in 3.0 version. Now when you're admin it is not grayed, you can populate it normally.
