My guessing is just give their support team your ftp account and pw. They'll upload the new theme and do all kind of stuff for you. No need expert or anything. In another word, just replace the files and you're good to go :)

1. Correct, you can purchase a templete, then simply upload it to /templates folder and you're good to go.

2. To modify the current template you can either download it to your computer and edit the templates within your preffered HTML tool (like DreamWeaver, FrontPage, etc.) or you can do the editing directly on the website.

Go to Administration -> Templates -> Edit Templates. Here you can open any template from drop down list and edit it within the WYSIWYG editor. This way there is no need to upload/download anything, use DreamWeaver, etc...

If you make any mistake, you can always revert to original template ("Revert to Original" button in lower right corner on Templates page).

3. Not sure what exactly you mean by "expert in HTML and move the code".

My personal choice is using Dreamweaver, you can undo and redo whatever you've modified so you don't have to re-edit the code after spending 2hrs :D

Dreamweaver is the best html editor. If you know nothing about html, the best bet is use default theme, just replace logo of your site or get a freelancer ;)
