Hello Vivvo,

I just now notice that the search in Vivvo 4.0.2 doesn't find anything in the static pages. Almost all my pages in my own website are just pages, static pages, and therfore I cannot find anything there.

Thanks

The search function searches only through articles.
It is not intended to search through static pages and this option will not be implemented.

Seriously? This is a nasty flaw. I also anticiapate using many static pages either on their own or as boxes in templates. I would think that a site visitor, seeing the word "search", would assume it mean "search the entire site." This is certainly something you should consider addressing because it's a big deal.

This actually shocked me! Is't sooo big deal!? I think this is very important for many of websites, very important to search the entire of all website, and not only the articles.
Am I write Vivvo users? :D

:) No, Vivvo should not be responsible for creating search capability for your entire site. They should focus on the code within Vivvo. Vivvo 4.2 now has "Pages" capability, therefore you really dont need static pages any more right? Of course you want to have static pages but my point is that Vivvo already has the capability to run an entire web site (in terms of content).

If you want a REALLY good search engine (to replace the one that comes with Vivvo) and you have a large, complex site, I recommend ZOOM (wrensoft.com)

You can tailor how your site is indexed to a very high degree, including categories. Many many advanced features. Best one I've used.

there's also Google Custom search. It's free, works great, and completly customizes to the look and feel of your site. I'm using it on an earlier version of vivvo, with no problems.

Yes, I was already looking at other search engines. It would just be nice, and not too hard, to integrate this into Vivvo.

The wrensoft.com does look great, but it's not a real good solution. It requires a locally run database which also requires a windoze machine. Too bad it doesn't just run from the server like other search apps! I use a Mac so it's completely useless.

The google search doesn't seem to work at all. It also requires that you specify and output page, etc, which makes it tricky with Vivvo. It is also not very flexible (look/feel) and it overrun with Google ads and links.

I'm still concerened about why Vivvo would not search static pages. Why would you put a search function into a CMS that didn't search the entire site? We have a HUGE problem finding good search utilities since Vivvo is entirely database driven. It would be very easy to find search utilities if Vivvo wrote actual HTML pages but it doesn't. This means we have to find apps that can index the pages from the database. Does anyone have any other solutions for this?

It works. You have to go into your AdSense admin and set it up.

In admin you can specific where you want the ads to appear (ie top and bottom, right, bottom, etc).

The system generates a code for your search box, as well as, the code for the search results. All you do is set up a static vivvo page, and drop the 'results code' in.

It works...I've seen it tons of times. For Vivvo sites with lots of articles, the google search is great, since it allows for better searches, and you can 'exclude' other parts of your site (like your forums).

Be sure you're looking at google CUSTOM search...not google SITE search.

1st of all thank you Memo about this then about another search tools . No i am not with you to use another search tools becouse as i belive that vivvo Developed this CMS to be stable and complete .

I think Vivvo team need to improve search may be in advanced search as a check to search in static pages or make a new Class to return search resultes from static pages .

We are considering options about static pages and if we find any good solution we will notify you about this, because of different structure of articles and static pages we have to integrate both.

It may not be a good solution for YOU, but it is a good solution :)

It does not require a locally run database but youre right, you have to run the app from a WINDOWS machine.

Using mac and useless in the same sentence is quite the oxymoron! :D

There are tons of PHP server based apps that you can get to completely replace the one that ships with Vivvo until Vivvo vX? decides to integrate static search. No small task either. You dont just write GOOD search cabability in a few weeks or months... thats why search-software has its own niche.... If vivvo decides to include static search, it should be something licensed and then integrated into Vivvo.

We are talking GOOD search results, and Wrensoft is second to none if you want ACCURATE and highly configurable results. But there are a ton of them out there that run with a web-based GUI that I use. You can find them yourself because since I found ZOOM, there simply isnt anything that can even come close. Its a shame that it cant integrate easily with Vivvo, HOWEVER... they DO have a SDK :D (hear me Vivvo devs??) ;)

Later...

I think to this day this has gone nowhere? Static pages are not indexed? Any plans to index them?

Static pages are not indexed but advanced search shows static pages as selectable category so to say.

Bug if content on it is not searchable but it shows in advanced search form?
