View Full Version : FAQ: Upgrade to 4.0
With so many questions (mostly via email and Help Desk), here is the short information and FAQ for upgrade/migration to 4.0.
If you purchased Vivvo CMS within last 6 months, you are still eligible for free upgrade. Please fill out the migration form on http://www.vivvo.net/upgrade_license.php (http://www.vivvo.net/forums/../upgrade_license.php) so we could create your account with appropriate license and remaining free upgrade period. With this account, you’ll be able to login to the client area within next 24 hours (https://www.vivvo.net/orders/client_login.php) and download your assets.
All Standard ($195) license holders will have the Standard license and support.
All Webmaster ($395) license holders will have the Professional license and support, valid for two websites.
All Developer ($999) license holders will have the Developer license and premium support. If your free upgrade period has expired, you can obtain a coupon for 40% discount for purchasing the new version. Please contact sales@vivvo.net for coupon code.
FAQ:
Q: How do I login to the client area?
A: You shall provide us with your email/password in migration form (http://www.vivvo.net/upgrade_license.php), that will be your actual credentials for accessing Client area and HelpDesk system
Q: I still can't login? What's wrong?
A: Please, be patient. We are moving everything to the new system and we're doing it manually. It will take some time.
Q: I have standard license. Do I get the Fast Caching module?
A: Unfortunately no. You need to upgrade to Professional edition first.
Q: I don't see any list of available plug-ins?
A: This section of the website is still under reconstruction. The information about plug-ins will be available soon.
Q: Will Professional (ex-Webmaster) license still have "all the plug-ins" as an integrated part of the bundle?
A: The short answer is - no. You will have ones you already had in 3.5, but not all the future ones for free. We will have a lot of free plug-ins available to both Standard and Professional licenses, to compensate for ones you had with 3.5 version. But newly made commercial plug-ins will be available only to Developer customers for free. Standard/Professional license holders will have to purchase them separately. Currently offered plug-ins (completely FREE) are:
vBulletin integration (comments and users)
News feed importer
Article Generator Wizard (new plugin)
Poll
Newsletter
Database importer for v3.5

Hold on a minute..... I think you guys need to elaborate a little bit on this plugin issue. Are all of the plugins that are currently available to the WebMaster folks (Banner management, Comments, Newsfeed Importer, Streaming Media, News Letter, Contact Form Builder, Polls, VB Integration)? From the list above, apparently not.....which is garbage......then you want to include the migration tool as a free plug-in?
I don't think people should be charged for plugins, but upcoming ones are one thing, if you are going to now charge people for plugins that have been part of the bundle......I've got some big problems with that. to me that smells a bit of greed.
Let's just say that you will not be charged extra for anything that you have already paid for. Guaranteed.
We are here to make the best CMS software and sell it to you, not to deceive you. Hence, any insinuations of greed and deception are quite insulting to us.

Wait a sec........you list the plug-ins that will be included....which don't include all the ones that have been available in V3.5. And if you read the entire posts, it asks you to elaborate.
it then goes on to say....
"...I don't think people should be charged for plugins, but upcoming ones are one thing, if you are going to now charge people for plugins that have been part of the bundle......I've got some big problems with that. to me that smells a bit of greed."
I stand by that 100%, if plugins that were part of V3.5 are now going to be charged plugins (thats my assumption based on their exclusion from the list), then I do have problems with that

I think you're jumping to conclusions. And this is not the first time, you should really think twice before posting something here, or at least start choosing words more carefully.
The plug-ins that were available to 3.5 version (and free for Webmaster license) are still here, and more of them is yet to come - FREE, of course. We just didn't have enough time to release them with 4.0, and we didn't want to postpone the release for another month just because of some plug-ins. Now, lets make a comparison, shall we?
1. vBulletin integration - included, much improved than in 3.5, and normally - free
2. Newsfeed importer - included
3. Poll - included (actually, will be in a week)
4. Streaming Media - not a plug-in anymore, but included in the very core of the system
5. Newsletter - included (will be soon :))
6. Contact form builder - will be done in weeks to come - free of course
7. Article Generator wizard - a NEW plug-in, extremely useful, free.
This leaves us with only one plug-in that probably won't be done anytime soon - Banner Management. And there is a good reason behind it. We plan on creating much improved solution, that will have heavy integration with Newsletter (inserting advertisements in newsletter, etc.) and some other advanced features I'd rather not discuss right now.
In addition, there will be more free plug-ins (and paid ones) in months to come. As previously said in one of other posts - we plan something very interesting for the community, and will disclose it once the time is right.

I'm afraid we misunderstood each other. And besides... we have absolutely no intention of charging anything that was free before. I think you should realize this until now, you're with us for some time now...
I must accept the blame for this on myself alone, for we were too enthusiastic about 4.0 release we just didn't have enough time to prepare all the information and instructions on website that would make things more clear. Never the less, in last two years we never did anything that would make our customers waste their money - I see no reason to start doing it now...

No, no, no......I asked for clarification..

.....you guys make mention of plugins that are included, and some were left out, then go on to say that other plugins will be paid.......I asked because there are plugins that have been part of the bundle that are not on the list.....if its an oversight, thats fine, and is easily corrected.
I think you guys read a little into what I was trying to say, and should have made that clarification from the outset. As to "jumping to conclusions, and thinking before posting.....nice attitude.....maybe you should have thought a little more before posting the description. Banner ads are pretty important, as some people have obligations for banners, and still others use them to offset the cost of their CMS or hosting......so when its not on the list of plugins, and isn't mentioned at all, and then after the fact you say its not even close to being included, you might understand people being concerned.....maybe?

Just for clarification, two quick questions:
1) Will the current banner plug-in still be supported in the new version for those with a Webmaster license?
2) And if the answer is yes, when will the banner plug-in be available for the new version, if it's not already good to go?

I'm hoping we can manually add in the banner ads, at least until the plug-in is ready. Its kinda one of those make or break issues as we have contractual obligations for those ads.
the Demo looks very nice, and the default template is very nice........

Approaching the 48 hour mark for my question. Anyone on staff care to answer? Bueller...Bueller...Bueller....
Two quick answers:
1) anyone already possessing the banner plugin will get a new version for free
2) the new banner plugin is scheduled for release in November (no release date yet)
Hope this helps.

From all the thread info, I am gathering that the video streaming is built into the 4.0 and no longer a plugin, right?
How about the payment gateway, is this a plugin or inbuilt in the version 4.0, right?
All other plugins already in the package as purchased before remains unchanged, right?
I will very highly appreciate it if you would let us know which one we are getting free with 4.0, and which one we will be paying for. The reason is for me to plan ahead of time on what to do so I may continue to deliver the same features to my customers.
Thanks Vivvo. 4.0 sounds like a winner.

We do not have payment gateway plug-in, but it is on our to-do list.
Here is a list of currently active plug-ins, free for use: http://www.vivvo.net/plugins.php

The plugins are in the client area. I was able to download POLL and NEWSLETTER. I could not see video streaming. Video streaming should be part of the 4.0 core, but I could not see any option on how to use video streaming in the help or documentation
VIDEO STREAMING: This should be in-built in 4.0
There is no area or option allowing for the upload of video files. However, I might be wrong.
OR
Is it under allowed file types to be uploaded? If it is so, how may I associate a video, or audio file to an article before publishing. Please comment VIVVO.

You can upload a video file as any other upload and reference it in article body. Or, you can copy/paste the embed code for popular video streaming services (like YouTube) directly in article body.

hhhmm you guys are a bit quick off the mark with this release, its no good to me until the banner plugin is ready, like some one else mentioned, its a crucial part of my site, and enables support and sponsors.
I really want to do the upgrade, so to use some of the new features, but after spending a very long time getting my site working with 3.5, i need the upgrade to be seamless, or it could turn out to be a big headache.
By the way, what happens if my 6 month grace period for upgrades runs out before you have all the plugins ready?
Thanks for any ideas.

I did not see anything wrongs with 4.0.1 that has no remedy. Pug-ins are built as additions that can be added at any time. You do not really need to wait for plug-ins, but that is a personal methodology. We all do things differently.
What I will like to see in the payment gateway for Paypal and 2Checkout. Based on the way I want to use Vivvo, it is very vital that I get the payment gateway.
The video streamin is just the way it should have been. You have the opportunity to insert the video at any location within the article as you want. This means that mutiple videos may be inserted with one article. Bravo Vivvo for this.
However, there is a little work that needs to be done on grapgics manipulations within the articles. I will directly let Spoonlabs know about my opinion on this.
If we all send issues to Spoonlabs, may be they should be able to get Vivvo to where we all want it and do business the way we would like.
Thanks.
