I'm using V4.0 for a small site (My Dad's business) and I want to just use HTML pages for the site (Its going to be 4-5 pages). I've set up the cats, with redirects from the HTML pages, and all that works perfectly.....but how can I replace the "Home" (index) page with a simple HTML page?

BTW, I've been tinkering with V4.0 on a HostGator "Hatchling" account, there smallest, and its running without any issues thusfar.

This simple index html page you want, do you want to be able to edit it from V4?

yeah......I'm tinkering with V4.0.......and what I want to do is....

Replace the default home page with an HTML page that I can edit within V4.0. I created a page called "home" and set it as a category, but deleted it.....now i have "Home" twice in the top menu, and I've deleted it everywhere I can think of

(http://beartoothk9.com)......its not going to be a site updated often, and won't be posting news.....but I'd like to create something clean and simple.....I've got the additional HTML pages created, and set up the way I want.....its just a matter of replacing the home page with the same......but, i am open to suggestions.

BTW, tinkering with V4.0, its got some really nice features, but I think anyone who is used to V3.5 and thinks its going to be a simple transition should take some time and familiarize themselves with the new layout and features before integrating it into a live site.

Maybe I got this wrong, but why do you have everything twice? Both in horizontal menu (for static pages) and vertical (in category sections)? Why not deleting all categories, and having only static?

As for home page - you can work on it directly in .tpl file. This way there is no need to redirect from real home to page called "home page". Another alternative is to leave that page (i.e. http://beartoothk9.com/home.html) and skip Vivvo's index.php by uploading index.html with <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://beartoothk9.com/home.html">

This way your custom home page will load directly when someone goes to beartoothk9.com

One thing I don't know is how to remove original "home" from navigation...

I'm still working on things.....just trying to check everything out and experiment

I'm still finding my way around the admin panel. I also can't seem to find the spot to input the license #.

I'll keep tinkering with it, I need to completely remove the most popular/most emailed box and find something else to do with that space, or maybe just expand the body.

Is there a way to remove the page title from right above the page body? I want to use a simple HTML page for the index page, but don't need "Home" posted above the box.

//edit for removing original home page:

Delete 'LNG_GO_HOME' => 'Home' from language file... and make it 'LNG_GO_HOME' => '', this way it wont show.

I also can't seem to find the spot to input the license #.

There's no such spot in RC1 version, as far as I know.

The beauty of v4 is you can have custom template for every single page. Make one for this custom index page (or duplicate default index), and remove

<h1><vte:value select="{article.get_title}" /></h1>

This is located in /templates/xhtml/article/default.tpl

Also, not sure if its a bug, but ran into an issue with the polls (I have since uninstalled)....when you vote, the screen refreshes and the poll area is distorted with two polls.

/templates/xhtml/homepage/default.tpl

<div id="dynamic_box_left"> /* for left column */

......

<div id="dynamic_box_right"> /* for right column */

I found it right after I typed that.....didn't realize I had submitted yet.

Removing this didn't work

<h1><vte:value select="{article.get_title}" /></h1>

Its not a pressing issue, just something that was bothering me. I need to figure out the home page issue.......don't need all the bells and whistles for this.

Removing original "Home" link from static page navigation:

Go to templates/xhtml/box/pages.tpl template and remove this line:

<li><a href="{VIVVO_URL}"><vte:value select="{LNG_GO_HOME}" /></a></li>

Should be around line 8

Hmmm, ok we are talking about static pages here.
Static pages uses default frame template, so you need to do next:

Go to templates/xhtml/frame/default.tpl and remove following block of code:

<vte:if test="{PAGE_TITLE}">
<h1>
<vte:value select="{PAGE_TITLE}" />
</h1>
</vte:if>

Should be lines 16 - 20

Please note that removing this block will affect all static pages titles.

Thanks Micha..... greatly appreciated. I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing this. I want the home page to be beartoothk9.com, but all i need is a static page i can edit in the editor. There won't be news or articles posted on it, just basically static content that should be rarely updated.

I'd like to get your input and suggestions on the editor guide i created as well, hopefully you'll have some time to look over that

I have looked at it.
Unfortunately i can't help you out with that, I'm more familiar with CSS and XHTML than PHP and JS.

Andy, where would I upload that HTML redirect? I tried uploading it to the root, and it did nothing.

I also have tried redirects through my CPANEL, but it doesn't work either.... and being totally frustrated, asked my host for, we worked together on it for almost an hour, putting lines in the htacess file, creating scripts, and using the CPANEL redirect option......and none worked.

I need help getting http://beartoothk9.com to redirect to http://beartoothk9.com/homehtml if you have any better ideas, feel free to share.

Anyone? I can't figure out a redirect

Create index.html which contains only this META redirect... I think that would do the job.
