I was going to submit a ticket for this, but I think this would be a good general "How To" as i've seen a couple of poorly worded threads on how to make this change.

Vivvo 3.5 uses an almost 14 month old version of TinyMCE, which has been patched several times (from 2.0.6 to 2.1.2).

I'd like to see a nice guide demonstrating how to upgrade the editor used in Vivvo, or ways to change the editor to other options, like FCKEditor, Cute Editor, etc. no offense, but the 2.0.6 edition of TinyMCE sucks something fierce.

I've been trying to figure out how to upgrade, but heres the issue. The TinyMCE site doesn't explain it very well at all when their software is implemented into a CMS, like Vivvo.....Their site says you need to talk to the CMS people, and my guess is that would be considered "customization" by the Vivvo people.

I'm not a fan of the editor, its a real pain in the ass (unless the newer versions fix a lot of the bugs, which judging by the bug list, they do). I think a guide for both updating the built in editor (to stay current with bug fixes and security issues) and a guide on how to completely replace the editor with a third party editor would be ideal......and I don't think it would be asking too much (By guide, I mean a well explained, professional looking guide that anyone can understand and follow).

Vivvo 4.0 uses version 2.1.1, which is pretty much up to date.

Of course it would :)

We will create how-to for implementing your editor of choice, I just can't tell you exactly when. We'll try to make it soon.

Outstanding.....I think that would kill a lot of questions and make customization much easier.

As to Editor version, there are a couple important bug fixes in 2.1.2
Version 2.1.2

Added fix for polluting third partly libraries that insist on messing with internal objects.
Added new save_on_tinymce_forms option to control when triggerSave is to be called.
Added mceContentBody class to template plugin preview.
Fixed bug where background color didn't work as expected in Opera.
Fixed bug where empty p tags where created on source code edit when forced_root_block was used.
Fixed bug where it was impossible to remove alignment using the align buttons.
Fixed bug where a empty URL was reported as a possible email link in advlink dialog.
Fixed bug where Opera would destroy the body if you pressed return 3 times in the beginning of a list.
Fixed bug where getHTML would return an empty string in IE sometimes.
Fixed bug where tinyMCE.selectedInstance is null after mceRemoveControl.
Fixed bug where remove_script_host option didn't work with media plugin.
Fixed bug with the convert_urls option and anchors in the advlink plugin.
Fixed issue with missing entityDecode statement for new document confirm.
Fixed issue with incorrect font value for Sans-serif.
Fixed problem with some youtube video urls.

In addition, I'd like to see the plugin added where you can use the full screen or editor box.....or even better yet make the editor box bigger.

Some versions of TinyMCE between 2.0.6 to 2.1.1 introduced fatal errors and serious bugs, which I believe it was the reason behind not upgrading immediately to a newer version. This reminds me with Microsoft SP2 for Windows NT 4.0 which introduced several annoying bugs that forced most users & admins to revert back to SP1 immediately.

We hope the recent TinyMCE 2.1.2 is really stable and reliable.
