What exacly do "Link (optional)"

What exacly do "Link (optional)", because i can`t understand what exacly do this options?

If you refer to the option in adding new article, it is for link to another site - source of the text you created as article.

When you create an article with internet URL address, in the Link (Optional) text box you should enter that URL including http:// prefix.

This is used for "Internet URL" article to provide the path to the original one. At the bottom of the article the " Visit website" link will be displayed.
