View Full Version : Traffic and Pageviews doubled overnight...

I'm still tweaking my new vivvo site, but after moving my content from [another brand name cms] to Vivvo, my traffic and pageviews literally doubled. (I checked Google Analytics).
The layout and logic of the new site is much better, and (apparently) visitors are responding by staying longer.
The time it takes me to update the site is MUCH faster than with [the old cms], and the feed system makes it easy for me to integrate with other 3rd party ad ons.
(note: the 'other' cms I'm not naming got mad when I commented on another board that I wasn't happy with their product. So to keep the peace, I won't name them by name:rolleyes: . It's more expensive than Vivvo, and is WAY more complicated to use.) I'm happy I made the switch.

Great website and efforts, but you still need to work on fixing those PHP errors and warnings that pop up on some pages.
Why did you disable "Email to a friend" option? It's not working from any page! Also make sure to disable the Comments from showing on the Print version pages as this looks unprofessional. Adjust font size is not working as expected, it just adds more distance between lines rather than increasing the font size. I'd suggest to keep Vivvo's default settings for that.
I like the idea of adding the bookmark button that supports all popular sites instead of having just the two default in Vivvo.
Good work pcoskat... and watch yourself from gaining more weight :D

I'm not really sure what those are, or how to fix it. Any advice? Typically I see them, and hit refresh, and they go away. I'm not going to do too much more to the code with the new vivvo right around the corner. I already have a ton of customizations...some of the other fixes can wait another few weeks. The hang time on the site is an average of 11 minutes per person, with a bounce rate of around 30%, so people don't seem to mind the glitches.

I didn't disable it. Not really a high priority. I've checked the stats...it's not clicked on often.

Probably up for debate...but the printer versions are being used much, either. (according to the stats)

vivvo defaults to font size of 8. I'm going to change the default to 10 (the fix was posted a few days ago)

I liked the 'idea', too, but the stats are clear: People aren't really using it, so it's taking up real estate. The overwhelming majority of people still use the email box. Also, very few people use the bookmarking features - most are still using their own 'favorites' (apparently). ETA: I just checked to get the exact #'s...94% of my subscribers use the email box. 2% use MyYahoo, and the rest are miniscule.
Google analytics is very helpful in giving you a glimpse at what people are 'really' using versus what you 'think' they're using. It's very helpful in prioritizing the order of 'fixes' on the site. (I also glance at the stats from Add This, and Feedburner, but GA tells the whole story).

I am :)

Thanks pcoskat, I didn't expect GA to be that powerful. I believe I should try it on my site/server.
While I agree with you about bookmarking articles, I don't agree for "Email to friend" since it's now an essential part of every CMS product and article & news site. I personally use it a lot to send articles' URLs to my friends and they use it also to inform me about many cool things out there ;); we rarely or never use bookmarks as the majority of users still prefer to add interesting articles & news into their IE/FireFox favorites for easy access, or save them on their computer hard drives - that's why many CMS products offer "Save this article/page" option - a good point for Boccio to consider in Vivvo 4 :D
Those php errors don't show most times on your site, so I suspect it's something related to your php runtime engine or php.ini on your server! Double check your server & PHP configuration files, and try to adjust or increase PHP sessions' lifetime/timeouts, etc. Try also to upgrade some libs or mods, or maybe it's time to move to another hosting company :p
Keep the good work :)

I didn't either, but I've been blown away but the detailed information.
You sign up for free, and add a code in the footer of your site...then watch the data...

I don't think it's a point of disagreement, as much as a function of your particular user base. My users don't use it. My friends don't either. We already get too much email, and would kill each other if 'articles' started coming it... :p

I TOTALLY agree. I've been looking VERY closely at the Pligg platform for a new site, and Pligg has this function...users can 'save' articles to their profile...

I'd quit Vivvo before I quit my hosting company. They're VERY good. But I'll have them check the errors... I have vivvo installed on several domains...TWWW is the only one showing errors. I'm not going to bother fixing it until the new vivvo is out (assuming it comes out in Sept)

I sent over a mockup of the template I wanted, and the artists on the Vivvo team created it!! Open a support ticket with a request, and I'm sure they can help you :)
